Stone Soup Troops are made of everyday people who’ve chosen to come together — sharing the cost of ingredients to make one hearty meal each week and, in doing so, fighting food insecurity together.
For many participants, saving 40% or more on even a single meal each week makes a meaningful difference in the family budget.
For community members who don’t need Stone Soup but believe in the mission, there are two ways to support the program.

Sponsor a Troop
Make it possible for a local Stone Soup Troop (~5 participants) to cook this week’s large-batch meal.
Your sponsorship is restricted to ingredient costs for Troops — not general operations.
- $20 — Sponsors one participant for one cook*
- $100 — Sponsors a full Troop for one cook
- $400 — Sponsors a Troop for a month (4 cooks)

*The $20 sponsorship represents an average ingredient cost per participant. If the week’s ingredient total comes in lower, the remaining funds roll into the sponsorship pool to support weeks when ingredient costs are higher.
Donate to Rising Light Relief
If you’d like to support the broader work behind Stone Soup Troop, you can make a donation directly to Rising Light Relief, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Western North Carolina.
Your contribution helps us develop new recipes, film instructional videos, and bring more awareness to the project so it can benefit even more families. Donations also cover the costs associated to the instructional videos we post to YouTube for participants to follow. We prepare large-batch meals the same way our troops do, but we deliver that food to local senior housing communities and families experiencing food insecurity in our local community. Having experienced the devastation of Hurricane Helene in 2024, many families in WNC continue to experience significant food insecurity and these meal donations can be significant help in tough times.
